Adjacent

I Keep you in a Mark close to my heart

It looks like the initial of your first name
It looks like a desperate plea that I made,
in a sweet request I think I said;

I want to build dreams
I want to have adventures
I want to make you laugh
and I want to make you
want to kiss me

Even though I know
I can't make anyone do anything

You kissed me

nine times on my lips
once like a dot in a trail down my spine
warming my skin like
I never told you I liked
and for forty-five minutes that was your life

We forgot places to be
We forgot caution and time
We forgot budgets and numbers
and all our destruction

and you trusted in me
trusted in sanctuary

And,
Imagining port and not just reprieves,
I think you finally
truly
believe
